Colorado Springs is nicknamed “Olympic City USA,” and there are many local events in which you can participate, watch, and cheer on our U.S. athletes.

The 2024 Summer Games are upon us!

Nestled at the base of Pikes Peak is Colorado Springs, home to the U.S. Olympic Committee, U.S. Olympic Training Center, and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum. It’s no wonder we’re known as the “City for Champions!”

The U.S. Olympic Committee selected Colorado Springs from a number of other host city candidates in 1979. The city was chosen based on a number of factors including our high amount of community support, our excellent sports facilities and infrastructure, mild climate, and the presence of the U.S. Air Force Academy. Also, it certainly doesn’t hurt that our high elevation provides a natural advantage for endurance training, as athletes can benefit from improved performance when they compete at lower elevations.

The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum opened in the summer of 2020. It soon became an absolute must-experience attraction here in Colorado Springs. This is truly an incredible place and is not only celebrated throughout our local community but throughout our nation as well. In fact the very year that it opened, USA Today named it the country’s “Best New Attraction.”

While our Olympic and Paralympic athletes have worked so hard to represent our great nation on the international stage for many years, we’re proud to have such a beautiful place to commemorate and celebrate their achievements, right here at the base of Pikes Peak!
