I’ll admit – my ability to eat food is far greater than my ability to prepare it! Thankfully, there are many opportunities to learn the tricks of the trade from our local culinary experts right here in Colorado Springs and around the state.

There are several cooking classes on the horizon, so feast your eyes on this upcoming calendar of events (in order of date):


1. Date Night – Food As Art

Friday, January 13 – 6:00pm-8:00pm

The Cooks Marketplace | 4697 Centennial Blvd (Colorado Springs)

Learn how to create beautiful food during this date night-themed cooking class! Couples will team up to make an appetizer, entrée, and dessert course, each paired with a decadent wine. The menu includes: avocado flowers with spicy oils and herbs, vegetable tarts, and chocolate avocado mousse. Discuss cooking tips and learn how to pair wines with food during this fun and romantic evening. Cost: $75 per person | Call to Register: 719-960-4414


2. Grain School with Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance (3 Days)

January 13-16 – 9:00am-5:50pm

University of Colorado Colorado Springs | 1420 Austin Bluffs Pkwy (Colorado Springs)

A bit more in depth then a regular ‘ol cooking class, this three-day course offered to both the public and to UCCS students explores the history and culture of global grains. Learn about their biology, growing, sustainability, production, and uses in an educational setting. Students will also learn how to cook and bake with heritage and ancient grains. Cost: $395 per person | Click Here to Register


3. Pig Picking Class and Dinner

Monday, January 16 – 6:00pm-9:00pm

Till Kitchen | 9633 Prominent Point (Colorado Springs)

Jason Nauert, renowned certified butcher and director of Colorado’s Rocky Mountain Institute of Meat, will demonstrate how to break down a pig while sharing some of his expert tips. Afterwards, enjoy a feast of barbecue pork complete with all the fixin’s and free flowing beer and wine. 4. Vegetarian Indian Cooking

Indian cuisine is rich in spices and flavor. Learn how to cook classic Indian dishes including cucumber salad, Peas Pulao, Bega Bhartha, Moongi Dai, Aloo Gobi, Basmati Rice, Chana Masala, Rotis, Carrot Koshimbir, Kheer, and Royal Bengal Chai, all vegetarian-style. Cost: $99 per person | Click Here to Register


5. Date Night – Chef’s Choice

6. Asian Appetizers and Raw Sushi

7. Healthy, Hearty Dinner Bowls by Nourish Community Market

On the menu for this community cooking class are winter roasted vegetable bowls with falafel, Korean rice bowls (Bibimbap), and yogurt cups with fruit compote. 8. Authentic French Crepes

The French Kitchen | Rockrimmon (Colorado Springs)

This five-hour class, taking place in the cozy home of French chef, Blandine Brutel, will prepare you to make the perfect crepe. Topics of this class include: fillings, technique, utensils, and batters. Participants will make their own sweet and savory crepes. Leave equipped with recipes and extra filling for future crepes! 10. It’s All About The Braise

Join this monthly cooking class with rotating local chefs at Savory Spice Shop located in downtown Colorado Springs. Chef Kathy Anderson will be facilitating this month’s class on the technique of braising. Cost: $35 per person | Call to Register: 719-633-8803


11. Sweet Tarts

For a sugary treat this Valentine’s Day, attend this three-hour course to learn how to prepare sweet tarts with French chef, Blandine Brutel. Make dough from scratch and learn about a variety of fillings. Leave with two 11” tarts (one chocolate and one fruit) as well as dough for a tart to make at home. Hear straight from the experts about the basics of America’s favorite sauce, barbeque. Topics covered include: types of smokers and grills; wood and meat pairings; choosing quality meats; rubs, marinades, and sauces; and temperatures and cooking times.
